About Me
Would you like a jelly baby?

The name pretty much says it all. This is the part of my website where I go on at great lengths about the strange and sometimes cool creature that is me. Of course, if you really want to get to know me, something a little more in depth will be required and you might actually have to send me an e-mail or an IM. Generally speaking I enjoy meeting new people, but if you're some 26 year old creep from Ecuador/Brazil/Mexico/whatever who wants me to do things I won't discuss here, then you should know that I don't take kindly to such requests and I will degrade you as much as I possibly can before posting the conversation on my blog for my friends to laugh at. :) No pressure!

What I'm Listening Too:
(also qualifies as "my favorite music", if such a playlist could ever truly be created with my eclectic and insanely differing tastes)

Name:
Amanda Cales.
Call me Mandy and I will personally rename you Weaselfeatures.

Nicknames:
Kuri, Aray, Kurikins, Mandaray.

Date of Birth:
August 2nd, 1988. (That makes me 19, by the way)

Blood Type:
AB.

Religion:
I am an atheist, and enjoy being extremely skeptical.
My parents are both objectivists, so I also have Rand-ish tendencies.

While I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a god/gods, I really don't care if you do. Some people think that makes me agonistic, since they're used to atheists who are totally rude, crusading butt thinkers, but these people would be wrong. I'm definitely an atheist. I simply take a different view of things. As long as it doesn't affect my life or impinge on my personal rights as a human being, you can worship anything from your pet goat to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I don't care. Trust me, I have way better things to do with my time then rant at you about God. Or the FSM.

Though you shouldn't take this to mean I'm terribly fond of theists. Generally speaking, if you're a really serious Christian or Wiccan or what have you, we're probably not going to get along too well. Sorry, but it's true. I'd love to say I have oodles and oodles of friends who are of all different religious beliefs, but in reality I don't. I have atheist friends. (Or friends who are only very vaguely Christian) It's just a simple matter of different interests and common ground. But that doesn't mean I won't talk to you at all, or treat you with respect. =) Just that we probably won't ever be super-close friends.

Oh, and by the way...if you're one of those people who think that atheists are less trustworthy than your average criminal just because their ethics aren't deity-based, don't talk to me. I promise that you will regret it. The same goes for any atheist who has the audacity and outright idiocy to say they have no morality because of a non-belief in a god/gods. Not only are you are abusing the true meaning of the word morality through stupidity and willful ignorance, you are giving the right-wing nutbrains the material they need to accuse people like me of being ethically bankrupt lunatics. I don't like people like you. I happen to have an extremely strong set of values, morals, and ethics thank-you-very-much, and I find anyone who says otherwise extremely offensive.

Hobbies:

  • Watching Doctor Who.

  • Listening to Doctor Who audios.

  • Thinking about Doctor Who.

  • Reading about Doctor Who

  • Downloading Doctor Who LJ icons.

  • Happily getting lost on Wikipedia for hours and hours. (usually in the Doctor Who section)

  • Posting on my LiveJournal about Doctor Who. =D

  • Taking on new hobbies which I will never have the time or money to actually pursue/complete.

  • Getting interested in lots of different and random things that have nothing to do with one another, but still make me giggle gleefully when I encounter them on television. (EX: Elizabethan history and quantum physics.).

  • putting banana stickers on my forehead.

Animal Life:
Two cats, and one dog. Pookums, Piedmont, and Bruno respectively.

Stalk Me at Your Leisure:
Gaia Online, as Kurikins
The Dead Robots' Society Forum, as AmandaCales

I'm a forum-goer at heart. Always have been, probably always will be. Unfortunately I have a bad habit of seeking out forums, joining them, posting awesome and interesting welcome messages, then realizing that 90% of the conversation going on at said forum is inane babble, which leads to me disappearing off the forums almost as soon as I've joined. So chances are good you'll see me posting here or there, but my activity levels probably aren't all that high. So if you want to meet me on a forum somewhere, it might take awhile before you spot me.

Yup, this is me!

Stalk me and I'll sic my large German Shepherd on your weedy little butt.

These are Some of My Favorite Things...

Music: Yuki Kajiura (I worship the ground she composes upon), Supreme Beings of Leisure, Morcheeba, Poe, Utada Hikaru, The Cardigans, Massive Attack,  YUI, Do As Infinity, Ayumi Hamasaki, Maaya Sakamoto, Boards of Canada, ATB, Morlack, Yoko Kanno, Koda Kumi, Nobuo Uematsu, Richard Gibbs, Train, Pink, Garbage, Delerium, Remy Zero, just to name a few. I'm also a big fan of Digitally Imported's many fine Internet radio stations.

Movies: All Harry Potter, Spiderman, Star Trek (except the whale one!!), Pirates of the Carribean, Tomb Raider and LoTR movies. X-men, X2, (do not speak to me about the third X-men movie) Van Helsing, The Incredibles, Shrek 2, Final Fantasy: Spirits Within (Yes, I liked it! Yes, I'm an FF fan! NO, the two are not mutually exclusive!), Serenity, Pleasantville, Elizabethtown, Legally Blonde, Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick, Lost in Space, Batman Begins, Stranger Than Fiction, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, V for Vendetta.

Books: Anything and everything Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie.

TV Show: Doctor Who. (Sorry, AB)

Video Games: FFX, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Tomb Raider 2, 3, 4 & Chronicles, Amplitude, Stronghold, SimCity 4, Startopia, Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights & exp packs, Beyond Good & Evil, Nancy Drew: Treasure in the Royal Tower & Stay Tuned for Danger, Need for Speed, No One Lives Forever, James Bond: EON.

Check out my GameSpot Video Game Wishlist! I totally do not want over $5,000 worth of games...*cough*

Color: All of them! Take THAT, hokey personality tests. =D

People: Alton Brown! The ninja gibbons of cooking demand you visit his awesome website immediately.

Hobby/Activity: I get a new one of these about every week, but currently it's relaxing in my room with a good book.

Flavor of Ice Cream: Mint. It used to be chocolate, but then Alton Brown mentioned that his favorite flavor was mint ice cream...so naturally, I had to try it too. I opened up a carton of Breyer's mint ice cream and I've never looked back. =D Don't let them fool you, though! Chocolate ice cream with mint flavor in it just tastes nasty. It's got to be mint ice cream with mint chocolate chips added in.

Tea: Tazo "Zen" green tea. In fact I drink about two to three venti sized green tea shakers every day at work. Let's just say the barristas at my local Starbucks and I are VERY well acquainted. =D

Random Crap of Dubious Importance:

From when I used to be a TPFer! Granted, I wasn't a particularly well liked TPFer, but I still had a lot of fun. For those of you who don't know what a TPFer is, uh...well, email me about it and I'll explain.

My first award ever for anything
The first award I ever won for my website! This thing is positively ancient, and holds great sentimental value.

From Gaia. =D Thank you random stranger! You're the only person who's ever given my outfit a 10/10 rating...my poor outfit. I love it so. But no one else does.

From Kerrama Valley, an RPG I used to be a part of until I was kicked out for speaking out against it's owner. I was given this award for my portrayal of the evil (and insane) black panther, Zelia Aurek.
